The retaining wall created the flat surface area we needed. It’s 12′ tall and over 100′ long.

Hillside Pool & Bar

This home’s backyard was unusable and didn’t add anything to the home. So, homeowner wanted to create the ultimate pool for entertaining. We engineered an Allan Block retaining wall in order to raise the elevation in the backyard. In addition, we terraced the pool three times in order to make a strong connection between the existing deck and the proposed finished grade at the existing basement entrance.
The client wanted to incorporate a tanning shelf, a spa, and a slide in the pool’s design. The slide was custom built to wind around the spa and shelf, and exit into the pool. The spa and shelf are used to transition between the upper and lower space. They also have spillways into the pool, creating two series of waterfalls. The landscape didn’t call for any trees on the east side in order to maintain the property’s views.
The underside of the deck was a major concern due to the fact that it was visible from the pool. We decided to create a space for a bar area. We used bead board to cover the rafters and created a wall so that we could drop grade to the necessary level.
In addition to the pool and bar, the client wanted a simple landscape with a year round interest. The Kousa Dogwood softens the brick wall, and the Endless Summer Hyndrangea create great seasonal interest. The Incrediball Hydrangea were an obvious choice, because they’re in bloom most of the time the pool is open.
